The applied sports scientist and practitioner

The work as an applied scientist probably started very early when Asker started recording his own training and progress at the age of 11. From there he developed this sports science background and started working with elite athletes early during his PhD. He worked alongside athletes in many different sports including cycling, volleyball, marathon running and tennis. He added football, hockey, speedskating, triathlon, swimming and other team sports and found hat different sports had a lot to learn from each other. He had the opportunity to work with some of the most successful athletes the planet has ever seen, including Chrissie Wellington and Haile Gebrselassie.

Asker has almost 20 years of experience working in elite sport. One of Asker’s unique skills is the translation of detailed, specific and often complex scientific findings into practical advice communicated to the coach and athlete in an understandable and practical way. Asker used this approach with some of the best athletes and teams in the world, in a wide range of sports from Ironman and marathon running to various team sports and believes that sports have a lot to learn from each other’s practices.

- Dutch Olympic Committee (all Olympic sports)
- British Olympic Association (all Olympic sports)
